Inge Jonsson, professor emeritus of comparative literature, was rector of Stockholm University from 1988 to 1994. He is past president of the Royal Academy of Letters, History, and Antiquities in Stockholm and has written a history of that institution. Dr. Inge Jonsson’s thesis, Swedenborg’s Creation Drama De Cultu et Amore Dei, is a welcome addition to the rather meager positive literature outside the New Church about Swedenborg’s works. Dr. Jonsson is a professor of literature, and it is therefore natural that he has chosen this particular work of Swedenborg’s relation to the doctrine of correspondences is found in Inge Jonsson’s Swedenborgs Korrespondenslära (Stockholm, 1969).4 The necessity Swedenborg recognized for a means for the causative spiritual plane to act on the material led to the quest spoken of above.
